Default World PvP in GW2 and PvP-only chars

OK, so if I got this right, no PvP-only characters here?

So... technically, if World PvP proves to be more fun than structured PvP, I need to grind, and since level cap will be increased, I'll need to grind a LOT?

Are PvP-only chars gonna have UAX armor/weapon skins, or is that gonna be available through fast unlock system (not prolonged grind one)? Or we will fight with sticks and wear rags like right now? I mean, the current sword model and strenght shield look ugly as is.

Also, I'd like, if possible, to get official reason as why PvP chars don't have UAX in skins. It's not like we go to FoW or DoA and bother PvErs. I perfectly understand that some will say "I don't need it". That's all OK, but it wouldn't harm you either.

The people(or should I say the person) responsible for making the game balanced has nothing to do with the artists making the game look pretty. There is nothing stopping them from just using what they make for PvE and just transfering them to PvP. They already did that anyway, the whole system just isn't accessible for most players though.

To me, not allowing all skins to be unlocked through factions or whatever for PvPers is just a huge waste of resource since the content is already there.

They make it hard to get the cooler looking stuff for PvPers because otherwise the PvEers will whine about how much easier it is to get obsidian PvP than PvE.

Who cares. They just have to PvP if they want one. It's not like PvP chars can go to PvE areas and show off.

World pvp is a fine idea, and it should win over some of those WoW grind types. But the focus and glory should remain in structured, highly competitive pvp play, such as HA and GvG. That's what GW has going for it. No other game offers nearly as balanced a competitive experience in a role-playing game.

So, I feel that there should be a similar system to what GW has in effect now. PvP characters can engage in structured PvP (to continue the balance trend), but world "pvp" should be left to the pve toons. The constant and convenient system of PvP in Guild Wars is what's kept me around, and I imagine it has kept other pvpers around as well.

Let's be honest: PvE gets old, amirite?

I think most of the people here on Gladiator's Arena understand that... but try to talk about it in Riverside Inn and we'll have pretty shitstorm

Why? No, seriously, why?

The only way I'd except this would be if PvE-only chars and structured PvP had full UAX, including absolutely *all* weapon and armor skins.

And even then I would not like the fact that I have to do shitload of grind in GW2 PvE to do World PvP, unless it sucked like Hero Battles. But I assume it's going to be more like Fort Aspenwood and catapult GvG maps, in which case I'd hate to level all professions and farm for them just to try them all in World PvP.

I'm never for limiting options. Limits are not my nature.

Until I have some information in front of me implying that world PvP in GW2 will be something other than people ganking others trying to level or farm, or the massive zergs characteristic of every other game's world PvP, I'm content to write it off as garbage that I'm not interested in.

Most likely it won't. My guess is that it'll be a super version of alliance battles where everyone participates in one thing. After all, they're trying to cater PvP to the casual PvE player, meaning that it won't be very structured in the sense that our GvGs are now.

Judging by the prevalence of sins in Alliance Battles, I imagine that the above is precisely the market they're going for.

i hope they separate pvp and pve again i think they should have pvp only editions for expansion packs that sale significantly cheaper, its no fair to pay full retail for basically new skills

yeah....world pvp is going to suck hard. Anet probably had enough of the pvp community and probably going back to were the money is, low competitive pve'ers.

A big part of the "excitement" of the pve experience is acquiring more levels and better stuff than the other guy. Having the world pvp being absent from structured pvp would appeal to that end. IE, no pvp-only toons in world pvp. Hopefully, then, that could also be a springboard to the more competitive forms of pvp.

I agree that structured pvp should be fairly UAX, so as not to further discourage new players. The title and rank system should be enough encouragement to those who need a number below their name.

Don't know how they'll handle it. Would probably be better to just go WoW style and let the players do as they wish, kill who they want, etc. The overall scheme of AB, maybe, but without the pve aspects or faction grinding. Just turning a pve map into a pvp map doesn't sound intersting at all.
